What to know about this collection
The electric mini chopper meets a specific need: chopping a clove of garlic, a bunch of parsley, or a shallot without taking out a bulky appliance. Ranging from 100 to 350 ml, these models take up little space on the countertop, and their bowls can be disassembled for quick cleaning.
It is also the most suitable format for small kitchens and for people who cook alone or for two. To find out if this size is enough for you, see which chopper to choose for small quantities.
Cordless or corded mini chopper: which one to choose?
More than half of the models in this selection operate cordlessly, with a rechargeable battery: the appliance follows you wherever you cook, from the countertop to the pan. The 350 ml ivory model charges via USB Type-C, and its 1,200 mAh battery provides several uses between charges. The cordless 4-in-1 adds accessories for slicing and julienning directly over the cooking container.
30 W corded models remain plugged in, but without a battery to recharge: they are ready as soon as you take them out. They come with a 100 ml bowl, a 250 ml bowl, or both in the same box. To weigh the pros and cons, see our guide to the rechargeable cordless chopper.
What capacity for a mini chopper?
100 ml: one or two cloves of garlic, a handful of herbs, or a small amount of spices. This is the size for individual portions.
250 ml: garlic, vegetables, and herbs for an everyday dish, all at once.
300 to 350 ml: slightly larger individual preparations and baby food, depending on the models. To monitor the texture through the wall, compare them with our choppers with transparent bowls.
The two-bowl kits, 100 ml and 250 ml, mean you don't have to choose: the small bowl for garlic, the large one for vegetables. For fresh herbs in particular, see which chopper to choose for parsley and chives.
Chopping or blending: two types of minis
Mini choppers with bowls chop: garlic, onions, vegetables, herbs, and chili. The versions with 6 stainless steel blades work faster and more evenly, which limits the mixing of large pieces and purée.
Portable minis for smoothies, on the other hand, blend: fruits, juices, and milkshakes, as well as crushed ice for the 300 ml model with a glass container. They can be taken to the office or on the go, but they do not replace a chopper for onions or meat.
How long does a mini chopper's battery last?
The rechargeable minis in this selection feature batteries rated at 1,200 to 1,500 mAh according to the product sheets, enough for several short chopping cycles before recharging. Each cycle only lasts a few seconds: battery life is measured in sessions rather than minutes. The easiest thing to do is to put the appliance back on charge after use, using your phone's USB charger, so it is always ready. Each product sheet specifies the battery capacity and charging method.
Is a mini chopper quiet?
Yes, it is quieter than a large chopper thanks to its small motor, but it is not silent: the noise is clearly audible during the few seconds of chopping, but it is well below that of a powerful food processor or blender. In a studio or open-plan kitchen, it is rarely disruptive. For complete silence, a string chopper chops garlic and herbs without any motor.
Frequently asked questions about the electric mini chopper
Can you chop meat with an electric mini chopper?
In small portions, yes: the cordless 4-in-1 is designed for garlic, onions, vegetables, and small portions of meat. The 30 W minis, however, are made for garlic, vegetables, and herbs. To find out how far you can go, read what a small bowl can chop when it comes to meat.
Is a mini chopper powerful enough?
For garlic, herbs, shallots, and chili, yes: 30 W is enough for a 100 to 250 ml bowl. For coffee beans, spices, and nuts, the compact stainless steel model with 300 ml, 150 W, and 4 blades is designed for these dry ingredients. For large quantities of onions or stuffing, switch to an electric chopper with a larger bowl.
Does a cordless mini chopper charge via USB?
Most cordless minis in this selection charge via USB, including the 350 ml ivory model via USB Type-C. Each product sheet specifies the charging method.
Can you take a small portable chopper with you on the go?
Yes, that is the advantage of rechargeable models: with no cord during use, they can be taken anywhere, at home or on the go. For smoothies to take away, the portable blenders in the chopper blender collection offer more capacity.
Can a mini chopper also be used as a mini grinder for spices?
Yes: the compact stainless steel model with 300 ml grinds coffee, spices, nuts, and seeds, with a transparent lid to monitor the grind. The 100 ml minis also chop small quantities of spices. Our spice chopper guide explains how to grind coffee and whole spices.
