What to know about this collection
Once you get past a kilo of meat, the hand crank becomes a real workout. An electric meat grinder solves the problem: you feed it, the motor does the rest, and the texture remains consistent from start to finish, something a tired arm can never guarantee.
Two mechanisms in this selection
The auger and plate model works continuously. Its 750 W motor processes about 1.6 kg of meat per minute, making it suitable for regular family preparations, and its accessories allow you to make sausages and kebbe. Its reverse function reverses the direction of rotation to unblock the mechanism in case of a jam.
The large-capacity stainless steel bowl grinders, from 2 to 5 litres, grind meat with rotating blades: no stuffing, but plenty of capacity to prepare fillings, meatballs, and homemade ground beef. The 2 L and 500 W bowl, with a double blade and 2 speeds, comes with a spare blade. The 3 L and 800 W bowl has 6 blades. The 5 L 304 stainless steel bowl, with 6 blades and 5 speeds, is for meals for several people. These three models also grind vegetables, and the 2 and 5-litre models also grind dried fruits.
3, 5 or 7 mm plate: what texture?
On a plate grinder, it is the diameter of the holes that determines the texture, not the power. The 3 mm plate produces a fine grind for fillings and smooth preparations. The 5 mm plate is suitable for ground beef and meatballs. The 7 mm plate retains more bite, for sausages and coarse-grain preparations. Our guide details which plate to choose for a meat grinder according to the recipe.
How to properly use your electric meat grinder
Make sure the meat is very cold and cut into regular pieces: this prevents overheating and gives a clean grind rather than a crushed one. On a bowl model, work in short bursts to maintain the texture. Our guide explains how an electric meat grinder works, piece by piece.
For small quantities and use without electricity, see our range of manual meat grinders. The two families are compared in our complete selection of meat grinders.
What power is needed for an electric meat grinder?
Start with the pace at which you grind. Between 300 and 500 W, a motor is sufficient for 500 g to 1 kg of lean beef, veal, or poultry, two or three times a week, provided you cut the meat into 3 to 4 cm cubes. From 750 W, the appliance maintains its pace through several kilos at a time and handles fatty or collagen-rich meats, such as shoulder, without straining: this is the level of our plate model, which grinds about 1.6 kg per minute.
On a product sheet, the throughput in kilos per minute says more than the watts. A motor that is too weak slows down, vibrates, and heats up; a very powerful motor takes up space without adding anything to occasional use.
Should you cool the meat before grinding it?
Yes, this is the step that changes the result the most. Put the pieces in the freezer for 20 to 30 minutes: the firm meat cuts cleanly instead of being crushed, the fat remains in distinct grains instead of melting on the plate, and the motor heats up less. For a piece that is already frozen, see if you can grind frozen meat.
Meat grinder or electric bowl grinder: what is the difference?
The meat grinder pushes the meat with an auger through a knife and a calibrated plate: the texture remains consistent from the first to the last gram, the flow is continuous, and stuffing sausages becomes possible. The electric bowl grinder cuts with rotating blades in a closed container: it works in batches and quickly loses the texture if you insist, but it also grinds vegetables, herbs, and dried fruits.
Choose the plate model if you grind several kilos at a time or if you make sausages. Choose a bowl if you mainly make fillings, meatballs, or ground beef, and if you want a single appliance for meat and vegetables.
Frequently asked questions about the electric meat grinder
Grinder, meat mill, electric grinder: what is the difference?
None in principle: these are three names for the same auger appliance, which pushes the meat towards a knife and a plate. The bowl grinder, on the other hand, is another tool, which grinds with rotating blades in a container. The two mechanisms are compared above on this page.
How much meat does an electric grinder grind per minute?
Our 750 W plate model processes about 1.6 kg of meat per minute. A bowl grinder works in batches: the throughput then depends on the size of the bowl, from 2 to 5 litres in this selection.
Can you make sausages with an electric meat grinder?
Yes, with the plate model, supplied with a kit for sausages and kebbe. Bowl grinders do not allow stuffing. Our recipe explains how to make homemade sausages with a grinder.
